Ayurveda: The Science of Life

Our bodies crave equilibrium, a steadily balanced life in which to thrive. When our bodies are out of balance, symptoms may begin to pop up making it increasingly difficult to thrive within yourself. We try to find anything to help with the bloating or acne or whatever the issue may be, but without finding the issue's root, we will continue to put band aid after band aid on it. The key is to find the root, and that’s where Ayurveda comes in.

The practice of Ayurveda helps to reregulate and balance your unique body through its simple principles, helping guide people towards balanced beauty. The oldest form of medicine, the benefits of applying the principles of Ayurveda into a person's life have shown consistently to be beneficial for the body. Ayurveda is based on the science of life in its four concepts; nutrition, exercise, meditation, and self care. It works with the body’s intuition and helps a person to understand their symptoms and its reactions better. Within that space of intuition one can better move with their body’s shifts and continue in a balanced stride.

Each symptom a person can be experiencing can lead back to the balancing of one of the three Doshas. Doshas are archetypes of peoples personalities and physical conditions, and in understanding all three one can balance themselves through their unbalanced Dosha. Within each Dosha there is a “light” and “shadow” side, helping to understand the give and take of a person's being.

  1. Vata: Air

    1. Light side: eccentric, visionary, inspired, full of ideas, creative, sees the big picture

    2. Shadow side: doesn’t know where to start, not grounded, sporadic

    3. Symptoms of Vata imbalance: bloating, gas, constipation, anxiety

    4. How to balance your Vata: grounded, rooted, warm and soft foods, grounding movement practices like yoga

  2. Pitta: Fire

    1. Light side: disciplined, confident, leader

    2. Shadow side: impatient, angry, frustrated

    3. Symptoms of Pitta imbalance: inflammation, acid reflux

    4. How to balance your Pitta: cooling, hydrating, refreshing foods

  3. Kapha: Earth

    1. Light side: calm, grounded, connecting, giving

    2. Shadow side: lazy, resistance to challenge of change

    3. Symptoms of Kapha imbalance: fatigue, excess mucus, brain fog

    4. How to balance your Kapha: bitter, pungent flavor, invigorating exercise

It’s normal to relate to all three Doshas, we all hold a part of each within, but the weight in each is different amongst us all and the symptoms we experience frequently. Ayurveda is all about tapping into your intuition and allowing that to guide you towards your Dharma; your soul's purpose. Through utilizing the principles of Ayurveda into your life, you can experience an alleviation of symptoms and a lightness in life that helps continue to move you forward in a space of positive growth.
